Fort Scott, KS 66701

Description:
The rolling grasslands of southeast Kansas are just one of the many natural wonders that await guests at the Fort Scott Campground off of US 54 in Fort Scott, Kansas. Ensconced in the stunning Little Ozarks Region, near the Marmaton River, the camp offers 50 sites, many pull-thru with 50 amp service available, as well as online reservations. A convenience store, clean restrooms, picnic area and barbeque facilities provide the perfect vacation spot, and a game room, playground, swimming pool, volleyball court and horseshoe pits, ensure entertainment for the entire family.

A quiet, family park, the Fort Scott Campground boasts a fishing pond, but if bigger fishing is what you're after, be sure to plan a visit to Crawford State Park, in Farlington, with excellent fishing and opportunities for all sorts of water sports. Once part of the land parcel that made up the historic Louisiana Purchase, the park has a beach area, full service marina and restaurant. Another must see is Big Brutus, a museum that explores the rich Kansas mining heritage, with Big Brutus, a 160 foot tall, eleven million pound electric shovel, the second largest in the world, as the museum 's centerpiece.

The Fort Scott National Historic Site is an exciting destination for history buffs, with 20 structures built between 1842 and 1873, a parade ground, five acres of restored prairie, and a exhibit-filled visitor's center. The downtown area of Fort Scott, with its beautiful Victorian-era homes, gift shops, antique stores and restaurants is another worthwhile spot to explore. In the heart of Fort Scott is Gunn Park, and meandering through it the Marmaton River, a great place to rent a canoe or take a stroll through towering ancient oaks and maples, and then return to a cozy campsite at Fort Scott Campground.
