The dense woods and serene landscapes of southeastern Missouri surround guests of Cherokee Hills Campground in Jackson. Located in the River Heritage Region, a short distance from I-55 and only 13 miles from Cape Girardeau, the campground was once home to an encampment of Cherokee Native Americans. RVs and tent campers are welcome at this year round facility and can make reservations through the convenient online system.

Just a stone's throw from the Trail of Tears State Park, Cherokee Hills Campground is the ideal base camp for a wide variety of outdoor activitis. Lake Boutin, inside the boundaries of the state park, is known for its excellent fishing, and a sandy beach provides the perfect place to lounge or cool off in the summer months. The Trail of Tears Visitor Center relates the history of the band of Cherokee people who crossed the Mississippi River at this location.

A drive into downtown Cape Girardeau offers endless recreation and sightseeing opportunities, including the Red House Interpretive Center, the reconstructed home of Cape Girardeau's founder Louis Lorimer, and a resting point on the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1803. Cape Girardeau's River Walk, besides enjoying close proximity to fine shops and eateries, also features the Mississippi River Tales mural depicting the city's history in relation to the Mighty Miss.
