Mountain ranges covered with green blankets of trees welcome guests to the Holly Cove RV Resort and Cabins near the Great Smoky Mountains in the town of Whittier, North Carolina. Open from May 1 through October 31, the park offers convenient online reservations and a host of amenities including a swimming pool, catch and release pond, shaded RV sites and cozy rental cabins. Just a short drive from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the campground is the ideal base camp from which to explore this magnificent region.
Inside the National Park, once part of the Cherokee homeland, has over 800 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking, as well as over 2,000 miles of streams for trout fishing, rafting and canoeing. The world famous Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic highway also known as 'America's Favorite Drive', winds through this area as well, offering fantastic sweeping views all along the way. The nearby Oconaluftee Indian Village, a recreation of an 18th century Cherokee village, is a wonderful day trip as well as a fascinating glimpse into the life of Native Americans.
The Nantahala Outdoor Center, also in the vicinity, is an ideal white-water rafting venue, and a great place for kayaking or canoeing on the many area rivers. Another worthwhile excursion is the Great Smoky Mountain Railway that winds through the Great Smoky Mountains, Blue Ridge Mountains and Pisgah, Cherokee and Natahala National Forest, making frequent stops for travelers to enjoy great shopping, museums, restaurants and parks.
