Far North

Alaska
FAR NORTH

Located north of the Arctic Circle, this region contains spectacular tundra and an icy coastline. In the summertime, wildflowers fill the grasslands. Near the summer solstice (June 21), the sun never sets in this region, making for endless days of touring and hiking. Giant herds of caribou migrate through the Far North each year, and birds and marine mammals flock to its arctic coastline. Alaska’s largest Eskimo communities reside in this area. It contains no large towns, but if you hunger for the warmth of village life, visit the towns of Barrow, Nome, or Deadhorse and its near neighbor, Prudhoe Bay.
