Recipes for Easy Baked Apples & Banana Boats

Eating by the campfire is always fun. There are plenty of delicious recipes for the campfire. No campfire meal is complete without a delicious dessert to accompany it. Here are a few simple, but delightful recipes for anyone to enjoy while out camping.

Baked Apples
These delicious desserts are like individual apple pies baked right in the embers of your campfire. They are simple to make and delightful to eat.

1 apple per person
cinnamon
sugar
raisins (optional)
nuts(optional)

Start by cutting a round plug out of the top of your apple. You will need a sharp paring knife to  cut out the plug. Next you will need to cut the core and all of the seeds out of the apples. You might want to bring along an apple corer to make the coring of the apples easier. When you core the apple you will want to make sure that the apple stays whole, be sure that you don't break the apple as you core it.

Once your apple is cored, fill the hole left by the core with cinnamon, sugar, and raisins and nuts if you desire. When the hole is filled, place the plug back into the apple. Wrap the apple in foil and place into the embers of your fire. Cook your apples for approximately 20 to 45 minutes depending on how well done and soft you want your apple to be. At 20 minutes your apple will still be slightly crunchy, but at 45 minutes your apple will be more like applesauce.

Banana Boats
This is another campfire favorite. Like the baked apples this is a delicious treat but quite simple to prepare.

1 banana per person
chocolate
marshmallows
nuts
peanut butter

Begin by peeling back only one part of the peel, but leaving the remainder of the peel in the banana. Next, slice the banana in half lengthwise and pull the two halves apart. Fill the crack with chocolate, marshmallows, nuts and peanut butter in whatever combination that you desire.

Place the peel back over banana and wrap with foil. To make removal easier you may want to fashion some handles out of the foil. Cook the banana for a few minutes, until the banana is warm and the chocolate and marshmallows are melted.
