CONNECTICUT GO

Connecticut
Pride of New England

Forests, covered bridges, and historic old towns define Connecticut. In the west you can climb Bear Mountain, the state’s highest point (2,300 ft.) or stop in a nearby village for lunch and antique hunting. Wildlife lovers can look for wild turkeys in the Litchfield hills, or bobcats, beavers, and coyotes at the White Memorial Foundation. Visit the heart of the Connecticut River Valley to see the capital city of Hartford and Colonial towns such as Essex, Chester, and East Haddam. Visit the southern coast for lighthouses and maritime history, or tour the campus of Yale University and the city of New Haven. Bird watchers flock to the Audubon Coastal Center Bird Sanctuary at Milford Point for the oyster-catchers, terns, orioles, and finches. In the east, drop into the small towns that line the Thames and Connecticut Rivers for a day of antique-shopping. The southern coast is lined with port towns from Mystic to Old Lyme, all with views across Long Island Sound.
