Road Trip Through the Brandywine Valley

The Brandywine Scenic Byway passes through some of the most beautiful and historic parts of Delaware. Starting in Wilmington, the byway passes through some of Delaware's historic sites, as well as to some beautiful spots in Pennsylvania. The Byway also takes visitors on a historic journey through some of the important sites of the Du Pont Legacy, and more.

Riverfront Wilmington

Visitors to Wilmington will have a great time exploring the boutiques and shops within the city. In addition to the shopping and dining found in Wilmington, there is also plenty of live entertainment to enjoy as well. Wilmington offers year round entertainment, shopping, dining and more along the beautiful riverfront.

Delaware History Museum

This Wilmington museum is a great destination to learn more about the history of the First State. The Delaware History Museum has three galleries with fascinating interactive exhibits. With changing exhibits and many different artifacts showing what historic Delaware life was like.

Hotel du Pont

This hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Wilmington, and is a first look at the Du Pont legacy that shaped the region. Visitors can enjoy the amazing amenities, as well as the hotel's art collection and more.

Gibraltar Mansion and Gardens

This wonderful mansion and grounds are another aspect of the Du Pont legacy. Visitors can learn about how the du Pont mansion was built after the land was purchased in 1909. In addition visitors can explore the historic gardens.

Nemours Mansion & Gardens

Those travelers that like visiting spectacular homes and the accompanying gardens will love the Nemours Mansion & Gardens. This was once the estate of Alfred I. du Pont, and today visitors have the opportunity to see the stunning architecture and furnishings within the mansion. The gardens are equally magnificent with formal French gardens and more.

Hagley Museum

Located on the Brandywine River, this is an excellent stop on a Brandywine Valley road trip. The museum sits on the site where the du Pont gunpowder was located. In addition to learning about the historic industry, visitors will also learn about the home and gardens of the du Pont's, located at the same site.

Winterthur Estate

The Winterthur Estate was turned into a museum by Henry du Pont. It had been his family residence, but he turned the collection of American furniture and much more into a museum. Today visitors can learn about the family, see the architecture, the furniture and also enjoy the gardens, also designed by Henry du Pont.

Brandywine River Museum

Founded by the du Pont's, the Brandywine River Museum is a wonderful spot to stop and enjoy some amazing art. The museum itself is located in an historic gristmill. Visitors to this  museum will also enjoy seeing on the largest collections of art by the Wyeths, who lived in the region.

Longwood Gardens

Right on the Pennsylvania border, the Longwood Gardens is one part of the Du Pont legacy. The land was purchased to save the trees. Today the gardens cover over 1000 acres and have thousands of species of plants. Within the indoor and outdoor gardens there are flowers, trees, beautiful architecture, fountains and more.
