PIONEER COUNTRY

Nebraska’s first settlers came by way of the Missouri River and many put down roots in this beautiful region. Explore the caves along the river’s banks or see how life used to be at Brownville and at Homestead National Monument, created in dedication to the Homestead Act of 1862. This act, which gave citizens 160 acres in exchange for five years of settlement, had a dramatic effect in populating the old west.
