Omaha, Nebraska’s largest city, has a colorful past. Named for the Native Americans who lived here prior to 1854, Omaha has seen historic trials, steamboats, rail lines, and gold-rushers. Dramatic weather has also played its part, bringing floods, tornadoes, drought, and insect swarms. Most days are pleasant, however, and make perfect boating and swimming conditions. Try soaking in the Platte River at Louisville, or among the blue rocks at 740-acre Pawnee Lake.
