SHORE

New Jersey
SHORE

Spend a day watching the waves on the narrow barrier island that is Island Beach, nestled between the ocean and historic Barnegat Bay. Fish for bluefish, flounder, and bass at Barnegat Lighthouse. Watch for ospreys, pelicans, egrets, and peregrine falcons along the shore, or try swimming in the surf. Beach-lovers will flock to Sandy Hook and the Gateway National Recreation Area on the Atlantic Ocean. For a more serene getaway, try bird watching or fishing (for trout, bass, sunfish, or catfish) on Hooks Creek Lake at Cheesequake, nestled amid the saltwater marshes.
