South Dakota

South Dakota
Home of the Badlands
The grasslands of South Dakota seem to stretch forever, leading past sunflowers, elk herds, and prairie dog towns. From the unique pastel formations at the Badlands to the lakes of the eastern Glacier Lakes and Prairies, South Dakota has riches just waiting to be explored. Hike the ponderosa woods of the Black Hills, or wander through the eerie depths of Wind Cave National Park. Admire the craftsmanship of Mount Rushmore, then head east, to the land of the Missouri River.
Whether your travels lead through fields or wild prairie grasslands, watch for herds of pronghorn antelope, elk, and coyotes. Pinyon jays and mountain bluebirds flit through the forests, while eagles, hawk, and kestrels love the open spaces of the prairie. If you camp near a lake, or spend the day on one, listen for songbirds, whistling in the clear South Dakota air.
