Visitors to San Francisco can enjoy this National Historic Landmark, with its amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, there are many areas for recreation as well as historic sites and more. This National Historic Landmark is a fantastic spot to explore during a visit to San Francisco.

The Presidio of San Francisco was for many years an army post. Visitors can enjoy the architecture of the Presidio. Throughout the landmark there are many different historic sites, with unique architecture. Each of these sites gives a perspective into the history of the army post.

Visitors can start at the temporary visitors center, which is located at the Main Post parade ground. A new visitor center is being planned. This site will give visitors information about the destinations within the park, as well as the history of the park. From the visitor center, travelers can explore the Main Post, which was the set of the original Presidio, built by the Spanish in the late 1700s. Here visitors can learn how the post traded hands from the Spanish to Mexico and finally to the United States. The Main Post is the site of the oldest buildings within the park.

Another great historic spot to explore is Pershing Square. This square marks the spot of the home of General Pershing, who was commander of the Presidio in the early 1900s. A fire destroyed the home of General Pershing, and took the lives of some of his family members, the square commemorates this tragedy. In addition, Pershing Square is the site where the oldest pieces of artillery in North America are located, two bronze cannons are located within this square.

The Cavalry Stables and Pet Cemetery are another spot visitors can explore. Visitors can learn about how the stables were once used to house a cavalry company, but were then transformed into a K-9 facility and a veterinary hospital. The Pet Cemetery is another destination for visitors to explore, and see the resting place of many different types of beloved pets.

The Presidio of San Francisco has many more historic sites of interest for visitors to explore. There is a World War II Memorial, the San Francisco National Cemetery and more. Visitors looking for opportunities for recreation will also enjoy a stop at the Presidio. With forests, beaches, and scenic overlooks of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio of San Francisco is an excellent destination for recreation.

Visitors can enjoy the beautiful Presidio Forest. The forest was planted by the army, and is mostly non-native trees. This is a fantastic destination for some recreation while visiting San Francisco. The coastal bluffs are another great spot to enjoy the nature and outdoors during a visit to The Presidio. Of course, no visit to the park would be complete without a visit to the nearby beach. Baker Beach is a great spot, it is a mile long, and is at the foot of cliffs. Although this beach isn't a spot for swimming, visits can enjoy a walk on the beach and enjoy the amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Golf enthusiasts will also enjoy the Presidio Golf Course. This course has had a long history. It was founded in 1895, from the time it was founded it has served a variety of uses, from a training ground in the Spanish American War to a refugee camp after the earthquake in 1906. Today the course is open to the public. This is one of the best golf courses in the country. Visitors will have a wonderful time spending a day golfing at this 18-hole course.

The Presidio of San Francisco is a fantastic California destination. Throughout the park there are wonderful historic sites to be explored. In addition, there are many places to enjoy the spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Visitors should also be sure to stop and play golf at the Presidio Golf Course, one of the best courses in the nation.
