SOUTHWEST BLUE RIDGE HIGHLANDS

Virginia
SOUTHWEST BLUE RIDGE HIGHLANDS

Forests and mountains, coal towns and canyons define this region of Virginia. In the southwestern tip, see the Cumberland Gap, the route followed by hoards of west-moving settlers, moving into Kentucky and beyond. Follow the Blue Ridge Parkway into the Shenandoah National Park, then onto Skyline Drive, a stretch of highway built by the 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps. This region displays gorgeous fall color.
