The region is known for Devils Tower, a rock formation that shoots straight up nearly 1,300 feet above the Belle Fourche River Valley. Many of the Plains Indians call this unusual landform "Bears Lodge." The Tower attracts hikers to its surrounding forests and mountain climbers who strive to reach the top.
