Heart of the Forest RV Park couldn't have a better name for describing this beautiful northwest Michigan enclave in the middle of the Manistee National Forest in Wellston, just off of State Hwy 55. Open April 1st through November 30th, the campground sits amid towering native trees and near the sparkling Big and Little Manistee Rivers, not to mention Lake Michigan just a short drive from camp. Miles of hiking and biking trails, the Big Manistee, one of the top ten fishing rivers in America, and opportunities to canoe, kayak, cross country ski and snowmobile in winter are just a few of the attractions that draw visitors back to the camp time and time again.
Only 35 minutes from Cadillac, the campground features online reservations and full hookup RV sites, each wide enough to accommodate a double pull out, which are situated near heated restrooms and have picnic tables and fire rings. For a relaxing outing, the nearby towns of Bear Lake and Kaleva offer visitors the finest of small town Michigan living, with quaint shops and art galleries to peruse. Close proximity to Lake Michigan means a beach is near, with Big Sable Lighthouse and Manistee Pierhead Lighthouse -- both must-see landmarks in northwest Michigan.
For recreation of a different sort, Little River Casino has over 1,000 slot machines and 30 game tables and is only a twenty minute drive from camp. Golfing at Bear Lake County Highlands will challenge your skill, and the fascinating Shrine of the Pines in Baldwin contains the largest collection of rustic pine furniture on display, including a table made from a 700 pound stump and a rocking chair made out of roots. Whether getting back to nature or just getting away from it all, go no farther than Heart of the Forest RV Park. |
