West Virginia

West Virginia

West Virginia
The Scenic Mountain State
The rugged wilderness of West Virginia awaits. Venture into its backcountry to discover deep woods, mountain ridges, and tumbling streams. In the fall, see hillsides ablaze in red, orange, and yellow, or come for the endless greens of summertime. Fish for trout in one of the quieter streams, or try white-water rafting and kayaking near one of the state's many waterfalls. Hike the oak forests, watching for deer, bears, owls, and eagles.
A mix of mountains and rivers give West Virginia its unique quality. In the north, hike the Allegheny Mountains, or fish in Tygart Lake. Further south, near Charleston, view the broad Ohio River or venture up the Little Kanawha. In the south, the ancient New River carves a scenic gorge through a patchwork of mountain ridges. On the eastern panhandle you'll find the highlands of the Potomac River, Spruce Knob, and the Monongahela National Forest.
