Arkansas

Arkansas

Arkansas
Heart of the Ozarks

Rocky mountains, dense forests, and winding lakes describe beautiful Arkansas. Nestled in between Tennessee and Oklahoma, with borders on Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Missouri, Arkansas spans a breadth of habitat. The northwest and northeast hold the Ozark Mountains, heavily wooded hills that are home to deer, elk, bobcats, coyotes, and foxes. The heart of the state is home to Little Rock and the Ouachita Mountains, where hot springs run and lakes provide for fishing and boating. The southern region includes a stretch of the Mississippi Delta, complete with cane habitat, lakes, and water lilies.
Arkansas lies on the Mississippi Flyway, the path of migrating birds and butterflies. Fishing is a popular pastime here (try for bass, crappie, bream, and catfish). Look for herons along the riverbanks, and kingfishers, wood ducks, and bald eagles. Climb the state's highest peak, Magazine Mountain, the highest point between the Rockies and the Appalachians. Wherever you go, keep one eye peeled for wildlife. Arkansas is home to a range of critters from butterflies to beavers, armadillos to tree frogs.
