The Pedernales River, the focal point of the park, serves as an ideal spot to explore the native flora and fauna of the region on the hiking and biking trails, and beautiful Lake Travis, 15 minutes from camp, is a great place to cast a line or enjoy a day of water recreation. The nearby Hamilton Pool Preserve is another great excursion, featuring a historic swimming hole and a 50 foot waterfall that spills over magnificent limestone outcroppings. You're sure to have a great time bird watching at the preserve, home to many native and migratory species.
The Westcave Preserve is another natural wonder of the Hill Country, containing grasslands and a sheltered limestone canyon dotted with rare plants and cypress trees. The highlight of this park is the fantastic 40 foot waterfall that flows over fern-covered travertine columns into a stunning emerald pool. You'll want to make sure you bring your camera! When you are in the mood for a little indoor entertainment, downtown Austin is minutes away, known for its live music, cultural events and museums, as well as great shopping and fine dining.
