With plenty of area lakes in close proximity to camp such as Lake Hawkins, Lake Fork and Lake Quitman, the fishing and boating opportunities are excellent. Visitors can also enjoy swimming, water skiing, and picnicking under the wide Texas skies. Birding and wildlife viewing is at its best in and around these lakes, with many migratory and native species nesting or just passing through.
Known for its gorgeous groves of pink and white dogwood trees, the town of Quitman is a vacationers' delight, with unique shops, fine dining and a relaxing small town atmosphere. The larger cities of Dallas and Tyler, however, are within an hours' drive from the park and offer plenty of entertainment venues, museums, great shopping and sightseeing.
