Kids Camping | Family Favorite Make-Your-Own Campfire Pizza

The campfire is a wonderful spot to teach kids about the fun of cooking. Although it can sometimes be more challenging, the campfire can inspire creativity in modifying and creating new recipes so you can eat your favorite dishes while camping. Here is a creative way to cook one of many kids favorite's over the campfire.

Campfire Pizza Recipe

Pizza is a favorite of many children and many adults. With this recipe you can customize your dish for each person, making it great for satisfying picky eaters.

You will need:
1 lb pizza dough, refrigerated
1/4 cup pizza sauce
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
1/2 cup pepperoni or other desired toppings, including olives, cooked sausage, pineapple, peppers and more

Since you are camping it is often easiest to buy ingredients that are pre-made. The pizza dough can be made at home and then frozen for later use, however, it is probably much simpler to purchase frozen pizza dough at the local market. Also, pre-grated mozzarella cheese is also a good option for campfire cooking.

Build a nice fire in your designated campfire ring. Then place a grill rack about 8 inches above the fire. Allow the grill to get extremely hot before you start cooking. You can make individual pizzas for each person, so divide the dough and roll it out nice and thin for each pizza. You can also have the kids help with this process, making their own pizza can be a lot of fun. When the dough is rolled out, prick each with a fork multiple times. Place the dough on the hot grill and cook on each side until browned.

Turn the dough over for a third time and add the toppings. Allow to cook for a few minutes longer in order to heat the toppings to your desired temperature.
